Blog#15: A song that moved me

       I've heard a lot of songs, but the one that moved me the most was "A Place Nearby" by the Norwegian singer Lene Marlin.  Her unforgettable sound and words of the song resonated with my emotions. I remember clearly the first time I heard this song, I was in a period of grief and I had lost my dear grandmother. The lyrics, "I watched your daily fight, I hardly knew the pain was almost more than I could bear," seemed to describe what I was going through, I watched my grandmother suffer and there was nothing I could do.  Grandma has been away from me for more than one year, whenever I think of her, I will listen to this song.  Although the lyrics of this song are full of sadness, her beautiful voice and wonderful melody make me feel less sad, it gives me hope and cures the sadness in my heart.  As the lyrics say, "Heaven is a place nearby, so I won't be so far away.  Maybe you'll find me someday, so there's no need to say goodbye." Death will not part us, my grandmother has not left me, she has always been with me where I can not see.  Finally, we will meet in heaven. I am so grateful for the song 'A Place Nearby ', which carried me through that difficult time and became my refuge and source of comfort, providing comfort and strength when I needed it most.

Blog#3: The reflection of Unit 1

I have gained a lot of knowledge through learning about culture and cultural identity. If use a very short phrase to express the essence of this unit, I will choose Hot Pot. Hot pot is like a multicultural world, different cultures are like different food. All food can be cooked alone in the pot, and can also be cooked together, but each food is unique and will not be replaced. I learn about culture through reading, watching videos, taking classes, and group discussions. One of the fastest ways for me to learn is to connect with people from different cultures and backgrounds.       Westerns were popular between 1930 and 1960. It is usually set in the American Old West in the 19th century. Here are three keywords about it. The first was the Cowboys. The main character in Western movies is usually a rugged, strong cowboy who is good at using guns and riding horses. The second is Frontier. Westerns are usually set in the vast landscapes of the American Frontier, such as deserts, border towns, ranches, and the Wild West. The third is justice. It is a recurring theme in Westerns. It makes a clear distinction between good and evil. Good cowboys stand for justice and often risk their lives to protect others. Edwin S. Porter, known as 'the father of the story film', was a famous director of the American Western. The Good the Bad and the Ugly Western was made by Sergio Leone in 1966.
