Blog#22: Course Reflection
In this course on popular culture, I have gained a deeper understanding of its meaning and impact on society. Before taking this class, I didn't know what pop culture was, I just thought of it as simple entertainment. Popular culture including film, music, fashion, social media, and more, plays an important role in reflecting and shaping our collective values and beliefs. If use a word to describe this course, I would use the sea because the sea represents the vastness, diversity, and ever-changing nature of popular culture. The sea is dynamic, and popular culture is dynamic, it's constantly evolving and changing. Looking back on this course, I can confidently say that it enriched my understanding of the sociocultural significance of popular culture.
Learning this course, there are many "aha" moments for me. An important aspect I learned in this course is that explore the influence of popular culture on identity formation. Through taking classes, reading articles, making CIP posters, and group discussions, I learned that representations of race, gender, and sexual orientation in popular culture can reinforce identity and can also reinforce stereotypes or challenge social norms, and it affects how individuals view themselves and others.
Another important aspect of this course is that explores the global influence of popular culture. Through case studies, discussions, and tasks, I learned that pop culture has a global impact that transcends borders. From the increasing popularity of movies, music, fashion, and social media, pop culture can serve as a bridge between different cultures and different backgrounds and promote cross-cultural connections.
Overall, this course in popular culture was an unbelievably enlightening and thoughtful experience. It gave me a deep understanding of pop culture and its many facets, and it also helped me critically analyze different forms of pop culture. I'm happy to learn this course.
